Hello families!

Today we...


Practiced our Drumfit routines with our groups!


Reviewed algebra and worked on some problems. We also practiced our games for math night!


We listened to music from New France. Ask me what the song was called!

Important Upcoming Dates:
  • May 11 after 2:00 – HUG & GO CLOSED TO ALL VEHICLES. Please arrange an alternate meeting spot or walk onto the playground to pick up your children after school. (The food trucks will need to be in this lot to get ready for the evening.) Please DO NOT park in the staff parking lot either. You will need to plan a different pick up spot with your child for tomorrow after school. 
  • May 11 – 6:00 to 7:30: Family Math Games Night at Northern Lights School
NLS Family Math Games Night

All families are invited to join us on the evening of Thursday, May 11 between 6:00 – 7:30 for our Family Math Games Night. You can join us at any time during this time to learn some games that your children have been playing in school to strengthen their math skills. (You can stay as long as you like, but you do not need to arrive right at 6:00 and you do not need to stay the full hour and a half.)

Families will be gifted a math manipulatives package that includes a deck of cards, dice, counters, a hundreds chart, number lines, and Power of Ten cards that will allow them to play the games learned during the evening at home as well.

As teachers have to prepare the packages and items in advance, we would love it if families can indicate if they are able to come so we know who will be in attendance. Please click HERE to enter the survey.

During this evening, our Parent Fundraising Society has also arranged for four food trucks to be in the Hug & Go between 4:30 – 7:30. Families can purchase items from the food trucks if they would like. A portion of all sales will be donated to the school. The trucks that will be on site will include:
- Perogy Boyz (which will have their traditional menu items as well as burgers and hot dogs for sale)
- Arepas Ranch (which will their traditional menu items as well as vegetarian and gluten free items for sale)
- Panini Boy (which will have panini sandwiches and poutines for sale)
- Mini Donuts Canada (that will be selling mini donuts)

Hello families, We will be having our school-wide Play Day on Friday, June 23.  This has a special theme to it: Western Wear! This means you can come dressed with denim and plaid in good 'ol Calgarian fashion! Students are asked to make sure that they dress for varied weather and bring a water bottle. Students can come with sunscreen, but will be responsible for applying it themselves.  Students will be given freezies as a treat on Play Day.  If you DO NOT want your child to have the freezie, please email me as soon as possible and send an alternative snack for your child instead. If I do not receive an email, that will mean that your child has permission to have the treat.  (The ingredients are: Water, glucose-fructose/sugar, citric acid, simulated flavours, sodium carboxymenthyl cellulose (stabilizer), sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness, stevia extract, colour.)

Tomorrow is Imagination Day!

S EVEN IMAGINATION ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS (FROM ‘I SEE ME’)  On Thursday, March 23, our Spirit Day at Northern Lights School will be Imagination Day! Imagination can also be sparked at home. Imaginative children are generally more creative, better problem-solvers, and more confident than their peers, so child psychologists emphasize the need for imaginative play.  Unfortunately, the modern world’s fixation on television, video games, and highly structured activities tends to stifle, rather than encourage, imagination.  We’d like to suggest seven imagination activities for kids to help them grow and develop their creativity: Dress Up: Dress-up and play "let’s pretend" games have fostered imagination activities for kids for centuries.  Encourage them to create their own imaginary worlds with a trunk of dress-up clothing.
